Preslie Severance
Every year, Blanchet welcomes new students to its halls. Whether it be a youthful sixth
grader, an incoming freshman, or a foreign exchange student, we always find a way to make
them feel at home. This year, Preslie Severance was one of those students. Coming in as a senior
from North Marion High School, she brought a welcoming presence we didn’t know we needed.
Having played on the volleyball team together throughout the summer, and during league, I can
tell you she is a wonderful character to be around. Although she hasn’t been a Cavalier for long,
she’s made some pretty unforgettable memories. The one she chose to share with me was from
her time at DECA state in Portland. She recalls, “...we were all at DECA and we walked up and
down the hallways talking to a bunch of people from different schools. There was one really cool
advisor that came and talked to us. He threw a football and it broke the exit sign which was
really funny.” DECA membership consists of a large population of Blanchet high school
students, leaving the LSC feeling empty at times. Because of the number of students who
attended DECA state in Portland, it allowed Preslie to “... get to know my classmates better…”
From fall sports to DECA state, Blanchet has reached the last half of the year, starting
with spring sports. With the spring sports season upon us, it felt necessary to ask if this senior
was planning on playing any sports this spring. To our misfortune she is not and is instead
planning on working at her coffee shop. For spring break, Preslie plans to spend a lot of time
outdoors, hiking with friends, fishing, and going to the dunes. Spring break marks for all of our
seniors the last quarter of their high school career. When asked about her thoughts on high
school ending, she says, “I’m ready to start college. I’m really excited about the major I chose
and being able to get out into the field I chose.” Following graduation, Preslie plans to attend
Oregon State University and study fisheries, wildlife and conservation sciences.
